With only 2 of us, we just order a sukiyaki, a sushi roll and a temaki. Price wise is obviously high, but I'm not that impressed by the food anyway.
They have done a good job in preparing this Wagyu Sukiyaki (RM 58) by adding lot of leeks, which boost the sweetness of the soup. I didn't manage to finish this bowl of sukiyaki, one reason is because it's big, another reason also because it's too sweet. I like the *sort of* glass noodles (harusame?) in the soup, how great if I can have that glass noodles as main dish, accompanied by same sukiyaki in a ramen size bowl... that will be just nice.
I shared some sukiyaki with SG, and she ordered herself a King Prawn Roll (RM 32) and a California Temaki (RM 6). The king prawn doesn't taste different with the normal fresh big prawn, and because this is deep fried, I always think this is not suitable for sushi roll. Besides, I also not so enjoy the chemistry between avocado and mayonnaise. The temaki is just okay, nothing more, nothing less.
The Lemon Glass (RM 18) is not refreshing and not savoring either (it claims added sake), better order a real sake ;-)To me... today's orders are not inspiring, but I don't mind revisit again to sample other items.

like you, i don't like over-sweet sukiyaki.. feel very "muak" and da king prawn roll is expensive! O_o think rakuzen's one is cheaper...
Not sure why but sukiyaki always tend to be sweet, I think it's the sake, dashi and mirin combo.
Like your honest and straight-to-the-point reviews. Keep it up! ;-)
Hope you have better luck with the rest of the food there. :o)
the sukiyaki looks really good!
reminds me of the one's i've had in Japan! Wish I could eat it but it's been way too hot this summer!
The King Prawn Roll looked soo colorful, with nice decor and tempting~! Erm, it's fried king prawn roll? Not nice? I like fried soft shell crab roll. :)
meiyen : read ur post about Rakuzen, will go either this or next weekend :-)
boo_licious : the waiter said, Japanese likes sweet sukiyaki. i only know about the name "mirin" early this year, pai seh.
tankiasu : ha ha... my England not powderful, that's why always keep it short and simple! thanks for dropping by.
wmw : i hope it's not based on luck, i prefer it to be "real good" ;-)
cheesywee : so good... i want to try this in Japan too...
cookies_cream : soft shell crab maybe better, because this is "king prawn" and more expensive, so i have higher expectation lor.
The sukiyaki and king prawn roll look nice. Too bad the roll is not up to your expectation.
jason : ah... maybe it's just me, nothing wrong with the chef ;-)
i have yet to try that place but i kinda like the interior design there..
thanks for promoting midvalley. :P whenever i go there i don't know what to eat and end up at kim gary
Sukiyaki is supposed to be sweet issit? Always wanted to go try out the food there but it kept slipping off from my mind.
jackson : i like the interior design too... but they should have some ninja's action here and there, either live or movie on the wall.
rokh : ha ha.. not really promoting. it's still a place i dunno what to eat ;-)
precious pea : well, it's too sweet in my opinion. if want to remember, next time go Mid Valley because of Ninja Jones, then you'll not forget :-)
WILL NEVER GO THERE AGAIN EVEN IF IT IS THE LAST JAPANESE RESTAURNT ON EARTH!!! We had been there three times and would never go there again!! Very disappointed and pity!!
We just had our worst dining experience there. The Restaurant Manager Danny Lai is only interested to sell you the most expensive items on the menu. iF YOU DON'T ORDER THE SNOW CRAB OR KOBE BEEF, YOU CAN KISS HIS SERVICE GOOD-BYE AND ALSO THE INITIAL SO-CALLED DISCOUNT HE OFFERED INITIALLY. A VERY BAD REPRESENTATION AND CANT BELIEVE THE OWNER LEFT THE RUNNING OF THE RESTAURANT IN SUCH INCAPABLE HANDS.
WE DO NOT REALLY KNOW HOW THE OWNER CAN EMPLOY SUCH RESTAURANT MANAGER. GOOD LUCK
I completely agree with the negative comments, I will include these as an appendix to support my complaint letter after my horrible experience with Ninja Jones, the following is an excerpt:
“After our party of four (there to celebrate a companion’s return to Malaysia) settled and ordered our meals, a waitress by the name of Annie gently suggested the idea of a seasonal fish platter to supplement our choices of mains.
Our party did not initially want anything more than our mains, but Annie smilingly and benevolently sold us onto the idea of a few pieces of raw fish as a small side dish to add to the pleasure of our meal. We acquiesced to her gentle sales pitch and assented to a dish of seasonal fish, without her informing us of any other details.
Upon encountering our bill however, we were in for an ugly surprise – the extortionate price of RM272.00 for our seasonal side dish. A dish which consisted of four paltry sets of raw fish slices, and a central pinch of non-descript shellfish innards.
This was a sum greater than the total of all the substantial main dishes, RM143.00, for the four individuals in our party.
We are outraged at the deliberate and sustained deception by which we were implicitly defrauded at your restaurant. We were never informed of the exorbitant pricing of this seafood equivalent of white gold, and were subjected to the Machiavellian salesmanship of Annie.
Many other diners would consent to this fraud, shake their heads and move on. I however, am not going to stand for this outrageous violation of consumer rights. I, on behalf of myself and my companions, demand the equivalent and requisite compensation for the economic and emotional distress caused by your underhanded staff.”
We had the exact similar encounter as posted by anonymous above on the evening of the 27thFeb 2008. Perhaps we were just sitting on the next table! Yes, the service staff by the name of annie was most unprofessional & "cunning" should we say the least in offering the "seasonal fish dish"! At our table, we didn't even agree to it, she just "shoved" it down on our order so to speak. I was with a foreign business guest, thus I didn't make a scene then. If I was alone or with my local acquaintances, things would be most different for sure. Note for anonymous: I would like to join you in making a firm statement to this respective restaurant's "defrauding" unprofessional salesmanship of its service staff, especially "miss annie"! my e-mail's at TLTC@rocketmail.com.
