Wong Chau Jun Restaurant @ Penang

Usually if you ask me which great food is a must try in Penang, I will refer you to Assam Laksa and Fried Koay Teow, but today I would like to add another one (shame to tell people I stayed in Penang for 3 years...), Fish Head noodles.

Sister brought us to this little Chinese restaurant at Rangoon Road (along Jalan Burma, one of the roads on your left before traffic light) months ago. At first, I didn't expect any surprise because I thought it's similar to what I've tried at Fai Kee, Ipoh before. So let's check out what have we ordered.

Steamed fish with Hor Fun 鱼片蒸河粉 (RM 32)

This is rather overcharge to some of you maybe, by looking at the ingredients, but I think this definitely worth a try. It can't attract you from the first bite, but slowly, when you start tasting the Hor Fun and the fresh fish smell... then probably you will like this. I will suggest you to eat this first if you also order the fish head noodles.

Fish head noodles 酸辣鱼头米粉 (RM 24)

This tastes exactly opposite. The soup taste strong, sour and a bit spicy (from pepper), the chemical is really stimulating. I have to make this clear, this is not like Fai Kee, not like spicy soup in Kajang or Seri Kembangan, and this is just their own version.

排骨焖面 (RM 14)

The third type of noodles we've ordered, nothing so surprise finally. This taste nice too, but quite common as SG's mum like to just pour a can of China stewed ribs to fry noodles, results almost close to this.

Beside the noodles, we also ordered some side dishes like vegetables and ribs, bill total RM 95 for about 8 persons, still reasonable right?

boo_licious : yea... named fish head noodles, but in fact not much fish head, more fish meat, but it's fresh though :-)

meiyen : too bad, it's not at feringghi, it's in town, but if you don't mind travel (i drive probably 30 mins from feringghi to here...), go try!

At a glance, the fish and hor fun dish looked like you folks threw the used towelettes onto the dish! LOL...

Don't remember having fish head noodle in Pg before. Sounds good.
That steamed fish with horfun is similar to what I had at Song River, Gurney Drive, except we had bihun instead.

This has been my favorite place for lunch whenever I am in Penang. The steamed hor-fun is smooth and the fish meat is fresh. The fish head beehoon is spicy and sourish and give you a good kick.

puerca : finally someone tried this before and confirm these are not bad ;-).
