Personally, I think most Penang hawker able to serve you quite decent char koay teow, with great taste and cheap price, which hardly can be found in Klang Valley here. One special thing about Penang char koay teow is they never try to make it too strong flavor (e.g. too salty), ingredients and seasonings mix just well and it guarantees excellent aroma plus taste. Some very simple and even halal stalls (e.g. Bakti canteen at USM Penang) but still able to produce quality that you'll love to have everyday.
Lorong Selamat char koay teow has been featured in Ho Chiak months ago. It's running by 2 ladies right outside an old kopitiam. This char koay teow is a bit special as compare to others, because they are quite strong in flavor, and the price, not cheap though, now already selling at RM 5.50. You will need to queue up to place order and wait for your char koay teow nowadays, guessed they are just too good in business after publicized in 8tv.
For those who looking for char koay teow that can impress you at the first time, this is the one I suggest you to try! But during public holidays or weekends, you may suffer queuing up under the sun... :(. First time when I tried this char koey teow, I reckoned this is really good, but somehow, it's missing something, something that makes me addicted to it, and will remind me each time I revisiting Penang. If you ask me which char koay teow I like, I will tell you it's another sister char koay teow at Jalan Macalister (I'm still searching for Ah Long char koey teow @ Dato Keramat since the stall has moved, anyone try that before?), parents and myself are visiting them EVERY time we go back to Penang, it's just based on my personal tastebuds again.

the char koay teow does taste nice but for the price and long wait, i would expect more. maybe it's because of all the hype...
Was there last week and waited almost an hour for 4 plates. Funny but the taste that day wasn't as good as before. Maybe too many people. Honestly the taste doesn't justify standing and waiting for more than half an hour on a hot afternoon!
That's pricey by Penang standard! I will pengsan by the time I get my order delivered! ha ha...
My personal fav is d stall inside the coffeshop beside the famous Teochew Chendol stall. Apparently it uses duck eggs which enhance the flavour tremendously!
oh this one, I tried before, without knowing this is famous lorong selamat Char Koay Teow!
deriku : u r rite, and I don't think this stall can represent Penang's char koay teow.
anonymous : try avoid next time during public holidays!
wmw : sometimes I wonder also why they can sell at this price. i was damn frustrated also queuing up under the sun, but no choice, i'm always the tour guide :(
tummythoz : opps, i didn't try that before, but personally i don't prefer the duck eggs version.
whistler : really? you didn't notice the Q? or u no need to queue? :p
There's a brothers' duck egg CKT in BM that's really popular. Personally I feel that sisters' CKT is normal only.
vkeong : thanks! too bad i'm not familiar with BM :(.
Ah Long char kuay teow has moved to a coffee shop at the junction of Dato Kramat Road and Merican Road(the row of shop houses opposite the former Federal Theatre)
