Eastern Delight @ Sri Petaling

Fried wantan only? No lah... I've visited yet another porridge steamboat at Sri Petaling... I think they are the pioneer in these new shoplots, but now you already can see few other porridge steamboat same row with this shop.

Eastern Delight, claimed only use vegetables from way up to Genting... No wonder each plate of their dishes need to "accompany" by lots of "vegetables", which make it looks really "big". First impression their food is not expensive at all... but after ordered then only know it's only small portion... you will need to add some extra stuffs to make you full.

As you can see, no detail photos on all the ingredients... reason for that?
1. They do not serve it all in one big dish, where usually steamboat shop will do.
2. I was having dinner with SG family again... shy to disturb them to enjoy food :p.

My personal comments on the food... just so so. Their porridge contains less MSG compare to others, which is good... but I'm still more prefer porridge steamboat at Pudu. Their homemade fish / meat balls, dumplings... Taste didn't attract me so much... hmm... all maybe because I'm not a steamboat lover, as I mentioned before.

Ming Tien @ Sunway

Have you ever been to Ming Tien hawker centre at Sunway? I seldom visit there... but since today want to have something simple, so we decided to try our luck there.

Ming Tien is just a small hawker centre (as compare to Ming Tien at Taman Megah) with few stalls... selling food that not attract me at all, so we try to order some food with "name" that I haven't try before.

Emperor Fried Pork Ribs Noodle (RM 6)

Sarawak Laksa (RM 4.50)

The Emperor's boss claimed this is his "signature" food... but taste not good for me. Its fried chicken is too dry and I don't like the flour he used, if Emperor really eats this kind of noodle, really pity him. About the Sarawak Laksa... not really my type. I've no idea this is good compare to other Sarawak Laksa or not... because I never been to Sarawak before. Let me know if you have details about Sarawak Laksa... how it should taste like and ingredients inside.

Tai Thong Imperial Palace @ Puchong Jaya

I have a friend back from UK for summer holiday, thinking to buy him a dinner... but end up he paid the bill. We (in gang about 16 peoples) went to Imperial Palace at Puchong Jaya, which under Tai Thong Group Malaysia. Always wonder why they want to have so many different names for restaurant...

Initially we are planning to order the set dinner (for 10pax), but surprisingly the waitress said we can only order a la carte because we sit in a room... what a weird rule. Below are some dishes that we've ordered, no price details because we didn't pay the bill.

Roasted chicken (and salad?)

Cod fish

Tau foo

Fried prawn

Scallop

BBQ platter

Imperial Palace has mix quality on their food... BBQ platter is not good, roasted chicken not good, but the rest... taste not bad and I like the Tau Foo. One thing special is their chef uses mayonnaise so often (for the prawn and roasted chicken), even taste good, but I will be more enjoy if they put some effort to "invent" their own sauce.

Hung Kee @ Jalan Loke Yew

Passed by this shop... should more than 100 times already when I worked somewhere at Jalan Sungei Besi few years ago, but never try before. After read about it at CharKueyTeow.com, finally decided to give it a try.

The shop is located along Jalan Loke Yew (see map at bottom), always packed from breakfast until lunch hour. Hung Kee should be a restaurant selling varieties of Chinese food initially, of course they are still selling that till today, but from what I heard, they are more famous with their Wantan mee. I dare not say I'm expert in Wantan mee, but to be honest, I didn't find any good Wantan mee in KL, quality drop usually caused by the "noodle" itself only.

Again, I've ordered "lots" of food. It was too crowded that day, so I and SG have to share table with an old couple... and they seems can't believe I can finish my orders. :p

Wantan mee

Bowl of Wantan

Char Siu and Siu Yoke (roasted pork)

Mushrooms chicken claws (冬菇鸡脚)

I've no idea how much they cost individually... all the food + 2 drinks total RM 29. So how's the quality? hmm... their noodles deserved to be one of the best in KL (because hardly see any good around). The rest of the food... just "ok" for me. Wantan no special at all, mushrooms chicken claws I'm more prefer my mum's style or Sisters Char Kuey Teow in Penang, Char Siu I will go for Tengkat Tong Sin and Siu Yoke to either Mooi Mooi or others...

But overall, they are not bad already. They occupied 2 shops along Jalan Loke Yew, one with aircon and they also have another outlet in Cheras, but I don't have the details.

Asia Cafe @ Subang Jaya

Finally I'm here, Asia Cafe @ Subang Jaya, thanks boo_licious! Really heard a lot about this food court, not too easy to find (for me)... and this place, really lots of food... First glance I already fall in love with this food court, must visit here more often to cover all the food.

So what I had for starters? Hunt around and found this, Stall 51, suppose to be a stall selling popiah, but they also sell some other snacks at the same time. I've ordered Samosa (RM 5)... taste like curry puff fillings in deep fried popiah skin, normal taste but special combination, the only problem, its portion too big.

...and of course, their Popiah (RM 3). This is just plain old popiah, nothing special at all, maybe I'm not a popiah lover...

My main course today, Stall 17, English Herbs Roasted Chicken (RM 7.90). Attracted by them because they have a big chicken-roasting machine, roasting chicken like what you see at Kenny Rogers. You can choose either Jamaican or English Herbs and their price is very reasonable. About the quality... hai... normal roasted chicken. Jamaican Chicken at Checkers taste a lot better (but of course... this is a lot cheaper).

After finished my roasted chicken... hmm... still not enough, need to find some snacks to fill my stomach. Spotted Stall 64, this should be the only Chee Cheong Fun stall in KL / Selangor area selling Chee Cheong Fun with red sweet sauce. Yep, I like the red sweet sauce more than the black / brown sweet sauce, so I decided to order their Golden Chee Cheong Fun (RM 3.30).

I like to eat Chee Cheong Fun (not KL one), but this Golden C.C.F for me... not good. I managed to finish it (of course), but it just tastes like "soft version" of popiah. Ha ha... I've another popiah today.

Lastly, my dessert, I bought this from Stall 44, Mixed Cold Bean Curd (RM 3.80). Well... something special at least, not so ordinary bean curd, should taste better if they store it cooler.

Hainan Tea

Sorry, sorry and sorry. I've been "away" for few days. Life still has to continue, as eatinout has to continue as well, no matter you like it or not.

Coffee and toast, a great combination to start a new day! I like to eat "great" Chinese toast, but how to define "great"? Hmm... it needs "great" kaya, "great" bread + "great" butter. I personally like to have it with gravy kaya and thick butter. The best so far I've tried before... it kinda hard to decide, or better I should say, I haven't try the best yet, but I can conclude that the best must prepared over the charcoal grill, the normal toaster... somehow just can't the bring aroma out.

I was in Low Yat some times ago and visited this "Kopitiam", Hainan Tea. Maybe there are not much choice in Low Yat (plus the price concern), therefore this place always packed. I was there just to have some drink, initially, but end up ordered toast together :p.

Hot and cold Hainan coffee, RM 2.80 each, total RM 5.60

Hainanese Toast RM 2.50

Because I ordered the food separately, so the total price is a lot higher. If you happen to drop by this place for tea break, I will suggest you order the set meal, consists of half boiled egg, Hainanese toast special and coffee, for only RM 4.50. Their service considered quite fast. The coffee, surprisingly ok for me, cause I didn't expect the quality to be good. Back to the toast... hmm... well, not the type that I like. My mum can make better kaya for this, so this is just... so so for me.

Still remember last time when I visited Singapore, in Isetan food mall along Orchard Road, there was a stall selling toast like this, long queue, but have better quality. Wonder if I open a Kopitiam like this, selling usual breakfast, can I "good luck" enough to get rich...

Don't feel like want to work tomorrow... but cannot, is life always need to hold back by these mundane affairs?

Restoran Taiping Lang

How do you define Taiping Lang 太平人? I born in Taiping, stayed there for 6 years, totally no idea about the direction in Taiping, so can I consider as a Taiping Lang? I'm not sure about that, but recently there is a new restaurant at Puchong Jaya, which claimed opened by "real" Taiping Lang (visit their website here).

Yeap, yet another post with lot of photos. The restaurant located very near to Old Town Kopitiam. Taiping Lang has few set menus, each set menu have 4 sets combo, each combo with 3 main courses and one soup, and menu will be rotated everyday (4 sets combo per day). I have their May calendar with me now, but too hard to list everything here... just to name some of the main courses: Achat Hu 青椒姜小鱼, Kali Kay 咖喱鸡, Sambal Kang Hu Kia 辣酱江鱼仔, Hong Ba 冬菇烘肉, Kanang - Chu Kay 薯片鸡, Or T'ee Ba 甜酱肉... etc. Our set on that day, Set Menu (T) - Set D: Bee Ba Special 美姨炖肉, Sambal Hae 辣酱虾, Bangkuang Cha 鱿鱼沙葛 and Soup of the day plus we've added a side dish, Ba Kian 肉卷 (RM 8). Our set is for 3 persons (RM 38), and you can choose either eat with rice or porridge (without extra cost, with free refill).

Ba Kian 肉卷

Bee Ba Special 美姨炖肉

Bangkuang Cha 鱿鱼沙葛

Homestyle cooking, this is what you can taste from here. I'm not too excited with the quality here... but at least, they have put effort to form the theme, deco, food and music. Listening to old Chinese song while enjoying Grandma's style dishes... kind of relaxing too.

Dessert wise, not much choice you can find here actually. I've ordered a cold Bubur Cha-Cha (RM 3), served with brown sugar, taste quite nice.

And some other random photos...

Serving food...

I saw this in toilet, quite special rite? And Grandma... everywhere.

Not so nice map, hopefully it helps. Click to enlarge.

Kim Gary

Lot of people has blog about Kim Gary before, so I think no need to introduce more about this restaurant. To be honest, this is not my favorite shop for "main course", usually I will only visit to grab some snacks.

One of my regular order is French Toast (RM 3.90) but SG don't like it because too oily. I think most of the Hong Kong style restaurant sells this, some serve it in bad quality, and some serve it quite nice, like Kim Gary.

Yin Yong in Hong Kong style (RM 3), if you have read most of my previous posts, it's not hard to find out I always order this drink. In normal "Pasar" term, I used to call it "Cham", which is a mixture of coffee and tea. Still remember when I ordered "Cham" once in Penang, they served me a mix of "everything": MILO, Nescafe, Horlicks, etc, and the taste, weird.

Next is SG's dinner set, Flaming Combo (RM 22.90), which consists of a soup, garlic bread, grilled spare rib, pork chop, chicken wing, dessert and Papaya Milk (additional RM1). How's the taste? Well, just normal. The grilled spare rib so hard to be eaten, they should have cut it into smaller pieces, and the chicken wing, not good. For a real rib's meal, should go and try Checkers, which I visited last month with PasanKia.

There are so many Hong Kong style café in KL/Selangor area… which one you think the best?
